Type of 3D Printer
Until year 2019, there are currently having 10 types of 3D printer in the market.
There are:- Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing (DLP), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Material Jetting (MJ), Drop on Demand (DOD), Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) / Selective Laser Melting (SLM), Electron Beam Melting (EBM), Sand Binder Jetting (SBJ) & Metal Binder Jetting (MBJ).
Today we will be sharing the information of FDM printer.
FDM printer being invented by Scott Crump founder of Stratasys more than 20 years ago. Up to date FDM printer is the most widely used 3D printing technology and it represents the largest user’s base of 3D printers around the globe. It is not only able to print functional prototypes, but it also able to print concept models and end user products.
FDM printers build objects from the bottom to top with layer-by-layer construction on a heated bed with help of extruder the thermoplastic filament.
In order to print, we will need a slicer software that’s control the operation of the printer. By reading the information / data from the digital file the printer will prepare to print by heating up the filament until the melting point and it will be extrude through the extrusion nozzle.
Besides, the slicer software will translate the 3D object into X, Y, and Z axis coordinates so that the printer will understand the travel sequence and coordinates to print.
Here is a video link of how FDM printer works. Enjoy!!
