What is layer height?

Layer Height = Quality & time consume of the 3D print and it is one of the setting that often changes and it will be creating different quality outcome in different settings.

How it works?

This setting is calculate in mm for the thickness, the settings start from 0.06mm until 1.0mm. With a smaller / thinner layer height (0.06mm) you will increase the quality of your 3D print in terms of surface smoothness & details visibility. Once the layer height hits 0.3mm and above the detailing on the printing surface will become lesser.

With the smaller layer height, the printing process will take longer time, for example:- A square cube of 20mm, and using 0.1mm layer height to print it will take around 1 hour, but if you are using 0.2mm layer height your print can minimize to 30 min to finish.

There are 3 Typical common setting in layer height as below:-

0.1 mm & below: A high resolution, at which the layers lining are barely visible.

0.15 – 0.2 mm: most common in current practice, fast printing time with good quality.

0.2 mm & above: Used for fast prints or test print. At this speed the layers still create an overall usable part while minimizing the print time but there might be a loss of detailing.
