What is SLA 3D Printer?

SLA 3D print is an additive manufacturing process belongs to the Vat Photopolymerization. In SLA, an object is created by layer-by-layer using an UV laser beam. The materials used in SLA are photosensitive thermoset polymers that come in a liquid form and normally we call is Resin.

Below is how the SLA printer works:

The build platform is first located in the tank of resin, with a distance of one layer height for the surface of the liquid.

Next the UV laser will creates the next layer by selectively curing and solidifying the resin. The laser beam is focused in the selected path using a set of mirrors, called galvos. Once all the cross sectional area of the model is scanned, the produced part will turn to fully solid.

When a layer is finished, the platform moves at a distance and it will re-coats the surface and this process will keep on repeats until the part is completed.

After the print is complete, it will requires further post processing under UV light or put under the sun to dry out the object else it will become very sticky on hand.

Good Day.
